Can i upgrade to 3.8.12 without github

There are changes addressing caching.

If you don't have caching enabled I think you can upgrade.
With caching enabled you must do a GitHub update (and even then there seems to be still an issue with caching Fabrik modules).

As always: backup before the update and if it's a critical site update a sandbox version for testing.

I have several sites that I've refrained from upgrading to Joomla 3.8.10+, I have upgraded one site to J3.8.12 and disabled caching at the joomla global settings level. This appears to be working for me. But I'm also on Fabrik standard release 3.8.1 and wonder if I should consider a github update yet, or wait for the official release for J3.8.12? I currently have no functional issues with global caching turned off at the Joomla level.

If you use J! caching, you'll need github.

Note that the modules issue with 3.8.12 @troester referenced should be fixed, with a commit from late yesterday.

Is it possible to ask about joomla 4 compatibility and the liklihood of any dramatic restrictions of Fabrik's availability in 2019?

I know the future is unpredicable, but just wondering if there are any hints on whether joomla 4 (or other events) is likely to scupper Fabrik or not?

We'll be OK with 4.0. It's a lot of work, but nothing show stopping. Can't guarantee when the first stable 4.x release will be, but there will be one.

Thank you.
