List Event on Attachment Read

Just getting back into working with Fabrik and needing some advice. I have a list of records shown on the front end where each record has one to three attachements. The front end view uses a Fabrik list. I'd like to be able to determine if an end-user downloaded any of the attachments. I assume that I should be able to use the Fabrik List - PHP Events plugin to accomplish this however I don't see an event type that would support this. What would be the best approach to determine the attachment read status?

I'm running Fabrik 3.0.7 on Joomla 2.5.20

I guess one alternative though undesirable would be to modify fileupload.php within fabrik_element. Surely there are other alternatives.

Thoughts?
