user element always defaults to logged in user

try as I may, I cannot get the user element to work.

No matter what user that is selected from the dropdown list, it always defaults to the logged in user and saves the default user the record, not the one selected via the dropdown.

Any ideas?

What settings do you have for the element? Is there anything else you have running on the form, e.g. a juser plugin?

If you are using it in visible, select from dropdown mode ... is there anything in the user element you actually need, as opposed to just creating a join to the #__users table?
