Dropdown choice generates text label?

Is there a way for a user's dropdown choice to generate a text label - i.e., a different label for each choice from the dropdown. Would this be just a variation of the cascadingdropdown element?

Sorry, I was unclear. User selects a choice from a dropdown. When he does this, an appropriate text box appears, describing something about his choice.

If you use a join rather than a dropdown, that's built in. You just need to create a list for your options and descriptions.
