Hi,

please could you add some snapshots showing how to update with github for computer offline. I already asked for this question and the answer was very accurate about the procedure for offline filezilla use. I failed using it it once. Please could you add in the wiki some snapshots showing the procedure to download github from filezillla for a computer offline?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by offline use?

Can you give me a link to the thread where you first asked this question?

I have a computer always offline where I can create in local web. I can download github from a different computer online. When I wrote offline, Imeant: in local web.
I haven't found the thread link, but I have found the answer content:

"Even for the local web you can use a ftp client to upload files to your webfolder, if you care for files/folders ownership alternatively you can overwrite the fabrik files in your local web folder after unzipping the zip file downloaded from github .
After uploading the files you need to to go to extensions -> extensions Manager - Purge Cache -> click Discover -> install need extensions only".

I opened Filezilla, but I can't use it because I have no experience with it. So I would need some snapshots about just its use concerning Github. I know the part after Extensions Manager because I have seen it in the wiki. Hence some snapshots only for filezilla use related to github

I assume you have a local apache/MySQL server running (e.g. xampp).

You don't need Filezilla on your local PC (you would need a local FTP server to use Filezilla).

Download the GitHub zip, unzip, copy all from inside the fabrik-master folder (i.e. folders administrator, components ....) to your Joomla root (e.g. into C:\xampp\htdocs\your-site, also containing these administrator, components... folders).
Make sure to say yes to all copy and override questions.

Thank you very much for the good news. In order to download the zip file, have I to create a new fabrik account or can I download the fabrik-master.zip (22,2MB) with my username and password?

What I did in my local web was:
1) unzip the GitHub zip
2) copy the folder unzipped into; EasyPHP/www/mywebsite/components/com_fabrik
3) Extensions Manager
4) Manage
5) type fabrik in order to select all the plugins
6)selected all the plugins
7) Refresh Cache

Each plugin was not updated because the date is always March 2013

8) Update tab
9) I can read into Update tab that no updates are available

Please, where I am wronging?

The dates wont change, they are the date from the last official build. I don't think you are doing anything wrong :)

My website on remote asks to update some fabrik plugins, but tat the end of the procedure used in local web (from point 1 to 9 above) I read: no updates are available.
My website on remote and on local have the same Fabrik version.

P.S.: I have to precise that when I unzip the folder and copy it into com_fabrik folder, I copy the whole folder and not the single files which are into it.

This doesn't sound right, see http://fabrikar.com/forums/index.php?wiki/update-from-github/#ftp-update
  • Extract to your local system.
  • Navigate to the folder where all the files and folder are displayed (folder "Fabrik-fabrik-xxx" containing "administrator","components",...).
...

FTP Update

  • Use filezilla or any FTP tool
  • Upload the contents of the Fabrik-fabrik-xxx folder (i.e. "administrator","components",...) to your Joomla root.
  • Set the options to overwrite your existing Fabrik files.
After this do the "Post-GitHub-Steps" to let Joomla know about your GitHub update:
In ExtensionManager
1. Mange: refresh cache on all fabrik plugins
2. Discover: purge cache + discover
3. Update: purge cache + find updates (there should be no fabrik update left)

I am working on local; the three steps concerning the FTP update are necessary?
Is the drag and drop (to copy a folder only with: right click - copy and paste into com_Fabrik) enough or I MUST use Filezilla also for local web?

Locally you don't need Filezilla but you have to copy ALL folders (administrator, components, ...plugins) from the upzipped GitHub-zip to your local Joomla root (not only com_fabrik to com_fabrik)

Before copying and pasting, I would prefer to have a confirm:

I have to copy the unzipped Github folder content (administrator, libraries, plugins, media ... the whole content including the files which are into the unzipped folder) into EasyPHP/www/mywebsite folder.
It will appear a window asking whether I am sure that I want to overwrite the content . I click Yes and the mywebsite folder content will be replaced.

Is it correct? Please can you confirm?

I have followed the procedure above and at the end when I click on Update tab - Purge Cache and then Find Updates, I see the attached pitcure content.
I don't understand its meaning. What's happened?

No, the update is checking if there's new code on the internet.
But this is only the Joomla update.
As soon as you have copied the GitHub files Fabrik is running the new code.

All this purge/refresh cache is only to tell the Joomla about your GitHub update (i.e. update #_extensions) and to avoid x "update available" messages, so the "Post GitHub Steps" aren't necessary to run the new Fabrik code.

We are in need of some funding.
More details.

Thank you.
