List data options / Wich should I use?

I need to clarify a concept on making a list

At the "data tab"

(First Option)
Connection: site database
create new table: jos_sample1

or

(Second option)
Link to table
Order by:
Order direction


I do not know if I'm wrong, but according to the fabrik user manual (page 88)

Let's say

• After using the second option
• I see the need of adding a field to the jos_sample1 table at DB

this new field won't show on the correspond form, group and elements
already by fabrik, Am I right?

But if I would have choosen the second option, would have been able to
see or add this new added field to the correspond form, group and elements?

The first option is for creating a NEW table that doesn't exist.

The second option is for linking to a table that has been previously created. So it could be a table you have imported or has been created by another application.


Any new elements you create will be added as 'fields' in the tables regardless of which of the above options you choose.

Those options just control whether we create a new table, or use an existing one. Once you have your Fabrik List (with form, groups(s) and elements), any elements you add will be created as table fields in the database. UNLESS you have set the "Alter existing" to No in the List settings, which is kind of a safety net, so if you introduce (say) a J! system table to Fabrik, you can tell us never to touch make any changes to it.
