php list plugin, JS confirmation

Referencing the thread from 2012 "confirmation window php plugin list" it looks like the functionality was added to abort the list plugin code execution if the user clicks cancel on the JS confirmation popup. I'm getting the popup but regardless of whether I hit OK or Cancel, the php code still runs. Did this functionality get removed somewhere along the way?

• JS code - Any JavaScript code code entered here will be run when the plugin button is clicked (at the end of this plugin buttonAction() method).
  If your code returns false, the button will not fire the request to run the PHP code.

You must return false to abort, e.g.
return confirm('do you really want to ...');
