Change Element Label text based on Usergroup/ACL?

Hi All,

I have a field that I'd like to change based on usergroup or ACL, rather than adding dozens of unnecessary columns, although that's my last resort, but it will get a bit messy.

For fieldfoo , if usergroup/acl named fieldbar logs in, the fieldfoo label will change to fieldbar instead. (Not the db column name).

Is this possible? Where would I add the code? Any guides?

I "think" you can do this with JS, with a custom template (form and/or list?) or with some php inside the element label and an extension like Sourcerer or directPHP.

No I decided not to go through with this idea. Things are set up a bit more complicated then I expected. Going a different route. =)
