Field Data - Display

I have an integer field - 1, 2, 3

When the value is x I want to display the word in the list view
1 Football
2 Baseball
3 Green

How do I do this - having a brain cramp. I do not want the user to be able to change it by clicking on a dropdown so that does not seem to make sense.

why not use a drop down and set its acl so that the user can not edit it?
