Filter list by date using content plugin

Have a list with one of the elements as "start date." Trying to filter the list via the content plugin where start date is after a future date. In the example below, January 1, 2014. For some reason, it's pulling all records, regardless of the value of start date. Is it possible to use the content plugin in this manner?

{fabrik view=list id=1 show-title=0 fab_events___start_date>1%2f1%2f2014 showfilters=0}

{fabrik view=list id=1 fab_events___start_date[value]=x fab_events___start_date[condition]=>}

replace x with the date as it appears in your List view.
