Getting Fileupload Value In Php Validation

Hi I am trying to get the attachment element inside a php validation but not sure why it does not seem to work.

The logic is if user selected to void = Yes then user should not attached any more document

Inside the attachment field i have a php validation
$xvoid = '{service_request___void}';
$doc = '{service_request___attachment}';
if($xvoid=='1' && strlen($doc)==0){
$this->setMessage('You have indicated to void this request,you do not need to attach any document, please remove to complete your action.');
return false;
}else{
return true;
}

When i do a var_dump($doc), i get '{service_request___attachment}'

But for $xvoid i am able to get the value 1 for Yes and 0 for No

In php validation current element's value is in $data. See what you get, if you var_dump $data.
