Pre-filter clarification

I have a list were people can submit a record. I have a hidden field [radiobutton] that defaults to "pending" status. I want people to be able to submit a record that isn't public until approved by an admin.

I have figured out how to pre-filter the list for the public to only show "approved" records.

How do I pre-filter to show the "approved" records to the public and "pending" records to a user with the ACL of admin.

I've tried adding AND and OR filters for the second option but it doesn't return any records.

Is there a better way to show a filter to one user group and a different filter to another user group? Or can this be done by user name? User X can see one filter and the public can see a different filter.

Use "Apply to" which applies the prefilter to access levels.
It depends on the structure of your Joomla ACL settings.
You can add accesslevels like nobody, admin, noadmin etc and use these in the prefilter.

With standard Joomla settings you can do e.g.
your 1st prefilter apply to Public
or
id GREATER 0 apply to Special
