textarea element strips out mathematical characters

How can I prevent the text element to strip out < and > when storing a matematical expression?

This also means I cannot store any sql "WHERE" statements

placing escape chars and other methods wont work, as one then cannot show the mathematical expression as is.....

eg: IF y > 30 then z = 10 else if y<=10 then z = 15

It is stripping from < to > if GlobalConfig/Textfilters is set to noHTML for the current user group (as superadmin it's ok on my site, stripping if public).
