I've been struggling for days trying to figure out why one form I have is displaying the yes/no elements as read-only.
I finally discovered what it was - An element in that form that was set as a "timestamp" type. I changed that to a date element and all is well.
It looks like the timestamp plugin and yes/no plugin don't play well together.
