Form placeholders not working

I'd like to show different text in my form introduction field, depending on whether a user is adding a new record, or editing an existing one. I've tried adding the following:

{new: Please add a new record!}
{edit: Please make any changes!}​

...but nothing appears on the front-end. I'm using Joomla 3.5.1 and Fabrik 3.4.3

Weirdly, for a new record it's now showing the {edit: Please make any changes} text, but still nothing for the {new:xxx} placeholder.

Also the {edit: Please make any changes} text disappears after the record is created.

Hi Hugh,

Many thanks for your screencast and for looking into this. The steps I've taken to create this issue are as follows.

1. Clean install of Joomla 3.5.1
2. Clean install of Fabrik 3.4.3
3. Create new list called Test
   
4. Create new field element called test
   
5. Create new user element called user_id
   
6. Create new Menu item called Test form, with Access for Registered users.
   1. Fabrik Form
   2. Fabrik Form Options
   3. Row id = -1
   4. Key name = user_id
7. I add the following to the Test Form introduction.

{new: Please add a new record!}
{edit: Please make any changes!}

There are no saved records, but when I login to the front-end and click the menu item, it shows 'Please make any changes'.
